Ego vs. Change: Decoding the Inner Struggle

by

Change — a simple word with profound implications, capable of stirring both turmoil and joy within us. It possesses the power to evoke feelings of unease or excitement.

But why do we find change challenging? Because it all comes down to our belief in the change.

Our beliefs shape our emotions, and our emotions dictate our actions.

We struggle with change because an underlying experience or an old wound causes an emotional trigger. The emotional trigger then rationalizes why the change is unwarranted.

This is the voice of our ego, which doesn’t want us to change. It wants to control us. It controls us by keeping us in fear and resistance because the ego only thrives in the shadow of our unconsciousness.

The ego’s role is determined by which one of our wounds is triggered. This is when we select an invisible mask to hide behind and justify that authenticity is unsuitable or impossible for us.

There are multiple ego masks to choose from — the Victim, the Martyr, the Perfectionist, the Villain, the Judge, the Pleaser, the Princess, etc.

In his book, ”A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life Purpose,” Eckhart Tolle illustrates his theory regarding the impact of the ego and the significance of living in the present moment by explaining that the stronger the ego, the more control it has over us.

According to Tolle, living in the present moment when the ego is in control is impossible because it lives on “time,” not “timing.”

Therefore, our primary focus is on the past or future. The past represents our identity; the future represents the fulfillment of it.

But the future is just that, the future — a world of problems, challenges, expectations, and disappointments because we’re always waiting to accomplish the next thing before we believe we can find happiness.

Of course, the only reality is the present moment. We can’t change the past; the future never comes because it’s always the future.

When we live in the present moment, we surrender our ego and the need to control the “time” of events and people. Instead, we trust in God’s “timing.” This removes the polarization, definitions, and conditions placed on the outcome and allows changes to flow freely.

As we transition from the old programming and into higher consciousness, we enter a “Limbo State,” also known as the “Neutral State.” This is a critical phase in which psychological realignments and re-patterning take place.

In this state of awareness, we operate from our higher consciousness, entrusting God to guide our next steps. Here, we embrace excitement without attaching to specific outcomes, staying rooted in the present moment.

When we stay positive and follow the path of least resistance, our higher mind (i.e., God) guides us.

Through this transition of importance, our pure intentions and intent create our new reality in the present moment. The past and future are no longer relevant.

Imagine our freedom if we didn’t perceive the separation of consciousness, living under the illusion that we’re powerless.

We would lovingly allow God to move through our consciousness with grace and ease, trusting that change serves our highest good.

Actionable Steps to Embrace Change:

  1. Face Your Fears: Acknowledge and identify the fears and beliefs causing your resistance to change. Writing them down can aid understanding and resolution.
  2. Practice Self-Compassion and Seek Support: Be kind to yourself and seek guidance from trusted individuals during times of change. Feeling vulnerable is normal.
  3. Stay Present: Focus on the now, letting go of past or future worries. Trust that change is part of your journey to self-discovery and fulfillment.
  4. Embrace Uncertainty: View uncertainty as an opportunity for growth and transformation, opening doors to new possibilities and experiences.
  5. Set Small, Achievable Goals: Break down change into manageable steps and celebrate each accomplishment.
  6. Remain Flexible: Stay open-minded and adaptable to unexpected outcomes.
  7. Reflect and Learn: Regularly reflect on experiences and learn from them to deepen your understanding.
  8. Embrace Self-Discovery: See change as a chance for personal growth. Explore new aspects of yourself so you can thrive in unexpected ways.
  9. Trust in the Process: Have faith in the natural flow of life. Believe that change is leading you toward growth and fulfillment, remaining open to its unfolding, even in uncertainty.
  10. Embrace Resilience: Strengthen your ability to recover from challenges and approach change with a positive mindset.

In surrendering to the flow of life and trusting in the process, we open ourselves to a world of infinite possibilities.

Let us step boldly into the unknown, accepting change not as our enemy but as our greatest ally on the path to fulfillment and self-realization.
