A 24-Hour Challenge to Refrain from Negativity

Over the weekend, while I was out running errands, I couldn’t help but notice how much negativity surrounded me in my interactions with others.

Criticism, complaining, and pessimism seemed to be the overarching theme.

By the end of the day, I noticed a shift in my energy, as if I was wearing a heavy, invisible cloak.

I couldn’t help but wonder how many people are even aware of the words they speak or the constant negative thoughts that flow through their minds daily.

When we dwell on negativity through our words, emotions, or thoughts, our energy shifts to a frequency level that attracts more of the same.

Why? Because the universe doesn’t distinguish between positive and negative emotions, it simply mirrors back the same energy we put out.

A fundamental principle in the law of attraction is, “What you put out is what you get back.”

Could you imagine a day where we replace criticism, complaining, and pessimism with kindness, support, and appreciation?

This leads me to a challenge I would love to have as many people as possible participate in — Refrain from expressing or dwelling on anything negative for 24 hours.

Here are Some Steps to Help you Succeed:

1) Intention: Approach this challenge with enthusiasm; approach each situation with curiosity and confidence.

2) Awareness: If negativity seeps in, say, “Thank you for bringing this to my awareness,” and release it with self-compassion. Reset and start again. Keep track of how many times you have to reset. This isn’t about passing judgment on yourself; it’s about awareness so you can make positive changes in your behavior long-term.

3) Positive Language: By staying mindful, allow awareness to guide your thoughts when interacting with others. Offer genuine compliments. Give your full attention and listen without passing judgment.

If someone is unkind to you, practice empathy and offer them a smile. Celebrate others’ achievements.

4) Positive People: Try to surround yourself with positive people. If you are in a situation with a lot of negativity and can’t walk away, be a role model and don’t engage. Instead, try to find something positive you can interject into the conversation.

Turn off the news in the evening and watch your favorite comedy show.

5) Progress: Track your progress at the end of the day and see how you did. Remember, this isn’t about judgment because that would be negative; it’s about awareness to want to create more positive experiences in your life. Recognize any positive shifts in your mood, perspective, or interactions with others that you avoided. Congratulate yourself on your victories. Acknowledge any obstacles you faced, and use these as opportunities to try again.

Unfortunately, negativity surrounds us, but that doesn’t mean we need to engage. Indulge in activities that bring you joy, contentment, peace, and satisfaction, and observe how fast your life transforms.

Who’s up for joining me in this challenge?
